The main thing is what do we understand by the word "Agent"?. There are basically two types of agent one is natural or God made agent and the other is human made agent.When it comes to artificial intelligence we only concern about human made agents.The term artificial intelligence becomes a buzzword in past few decades.There is a long history about the term artificial intelligence.We will only discuss about the rational agent.
An agent will be called as intelligence only when it can process things based on the inputs or precepts from environment and take actions.
But what makes an agent like as human,obviously there need a storage where the agent can store data of present and past circumstances. We can compare this storage system with human brain.
Lets talk about some key notes about the rational agent and how it actually response in real world.

Sensors: which we may compare with like human mouth,nose or other ways that we can take inputs from environment.
Precepts: which refers to the term input. Like as now i am writing a blog this can be called as an precepts.
Actuators: by which agent give some actions to the environment.
Actions: this term is just refers that which actions we are taking based on the precepts.
Except this 4 there is another option which is the "Question sign".This actually means or refers that in this place all the processing happens. Like as i am writing a blog about ai now, this is a precepts and after that the agent process that if i am writing a blog related to ai then i must consider the thought of "Alan Turing" (the evaluation that he brings in ai) and the actions would be the writing that you will be reading now.
There is also two terms known as Agent function and Agent Program.
Agent function:
Agent function helps to relate or map the precepts histories with the actions and all the possible logical or conditional thing happens here.
There is an agent function which is: f : P*=>A
Here f is the function,P* is all the previous precept history and A is the action.
Agent Program:
Agent program is the implementation of the thinking or by which an agent is run with an physical architecture to produce f.
Artificial intelligence invented not to vanish the existence of human being , we must made a better world with the help of safe AI.
